One of our Success Stories...

Sarah is a 39-year-old woman from VanBuren County whose stay with us was encouraged by her lawyer.  Sarah was reluctant to come here because she did not have custody of her children and was fearful that her husband would charge her with kidnapping them.  Her attorney assured her that due to the severity of the abuse from her husband she had a legal right to protect them.  Sarah stated how safe she felt here and that she was able to sleep at night for the first time in months.  Staff saw the children change from being withdrawn and fearful to being able to laugh and play again.  Sarah and her girls have found safe, affordable housing and her husband has been arrested several times for his previous crimes and continued stalking behavior.
