Domestic Abuse Survivors Support Services
One of our Success Stories...
Julie came from Ottawa County because their shelters were full. She’s a 34-year-old African-American woman with 3 children: a 4-year-old daughter, an 18-month-old son and a 15-year-old son. She left her partner after he physically attacked her. She and her children were at risk in the home because of his involvement with substance abuse and gambling. In addition to the unsafe environment for her and her children, bills were not being paid and she was facing homelessness. After 30 days, we referred her to several local agencies for housing and supportive services. She was housed in two other shelters for the length of their programs also. Julie ultimately had to be doubled up with her mother due to her inability to qualify for housing because of her poor credit history. A year after leaving our safe house, Julie has informed us that she has finally found a home for herself and her children that they can afford and be safe in.
